Storm Damage Repair in Alexandria, Done Safely From the Ground Up
After hail or high wind, we look at your roof from the ground first, then from a secured ladder, and photograph every bruised shingle, lifted tab and bent vent. You get a free estimate that separates storm damage from ordinary wear, plus a safe temporary fix if water is getting in.
What storm damage repair covers and when it's the right call
Storm damage repair restores the parts of a roof that a single weather event broke: shingles creased by wind, granules knocked loose by hail, flashing pulled away from a chimney, a gutter torn off the fascia by a falling limb. It is different from general roof repair, which deals with slow wear, because the cause, the paperwork and often the payer are different.
Spring and summer thunderstorms across Northern Kentucky bring straight-line wind and hail. A roof can look fine from the driveway while the seal strips on dozens of shingles have let go, and those unsealed tabs are the ones that blow off in the next storm. Finding them early keeps a small repair from turning into a full roof replacement.
Safety shapes how we do this work. Storm-damaged roofs are slick with loose granules, and decking can be soft where water sat. We check footing before anyone walks a slope, tie off on steep pitches, and keep you and your family clear of the drip line while debris comes down.
What the work includes
Documented damage assessment
We photograph hail hits, creased tabs, cracked vent boots and dented metal, marking each spot so it is clear in the picture. You keep the photos whether or not you file a claim.
Temporary weatherproofing
If water is getting into your home, we fasten a tarp over the opening with wood battens screwed through it, not loose bricks that can slide off and fall. It holds until the permanent repair is scheduled.
Shingle and underlayment replacement
Damaged shingles are lifted, the underlayment beneath is checked for tears, and new shingles are matched as closely as possible in color and profile. Each one is hand-nailed in the manufacturer's nail zone so the seal strip can bond.
Flashing, vents and ridge
Wind works on the edges first. We reset or replace step flashing, counterflashing, pipe boots, ridge cap and drip edge, since these are where storm water usually finds its way in.
Decking repair
Where plywood or OSB has gone soft or delaminated, we cut the bad section back to the rafters and install new sheathing. Shingles nailed into wet decking won't hold.
Gutters and siding noted
Hail that bruises shingles also dents gutters and cracks vinyl siding. We record that damage in the same report, and our gutters and siding work can be handled on the same visit.
Signs your roof took storm damage
Shingles in the yard
Even one tab on the grass means the seal strips around it have likely failed. Wind lifts the neighboring shingles next.
Granules piling up at downspouts
A sudden pile of dark grit at the bottom of a downspout after hail points to bruised shingles. Once the granules are gone, sunlight breaks down the exposed asphalt and the shingle ages fast.
Fresh dents on metal
Check gutters, downspouts, box vents and the fins on your AC unit. New dents there mean hail of that size struck the roof too.
A new ceiling stain
A stain that shows up after a storm, often near a chimney, skylight or plumbing vent, usually means flashing shifted or a rubber boot cracked.
Creased or lifted tabs
A straight line across a shingle tab is a crease from wind folding it back. Creased shingles have lost their seal and will not lie flat again.
How a storm repair visit runs
- 1
A free inspection, ground first
We walk the property, check gutters and soft metals, and look for hazards like hanging limbs or downed lines before a ladder goes up. If a slope isn't safe to walk while wet, we come back when it is.
- 2
Photos and a written estimate
You get a line-item estimate listing each repair and its cause, with storm damage kept separate from age or old patchwork. If you file a claim, the photos and notes are ready for your adjuster. We explain the process, but the adjuster makes the coverage call.
- 3
Repair day setup
Ladders go on level ground and get tied off, shrubs and AC units are covered, and we mark a drop zone so nobody walks under the eaves. Kids and pets stay inside or well back while old material comes off.
- 4
Repair and cleanup
Damaged material is removed, decking and underlayment are checked, and new components go on. We run a magnetic sweeper over the lawn and driveway for nails, then show you photos of the finished work.
What changes the price of a storm repair
There is no set price for storm work, since no two roofs take wind and hail the same way. Your free estimate splits the job into line items, each linked to its cause, so the total is clear before work begins. If you choose to file a claim, your insurer can compare that itemized scope with its own figures.
- How much roof was hit
- A few tabs lifted by wind on one slope is a modest job. Hail bruises on every plane can point toward roof replacement instead.
- State of the decking
- Sheathing that is soft or water-damaged must be replaced before new shingles go down. How much is affected often only shows after the old shingles are off, so we photograph it and talk it over with you first.
- Shingle match
- When a color or profile is no longer made, a larger area may need new shingles so the roof sheds water correctly and looks even.
- Slope, height and reach
- Steep and two-story roofs need more fall protection setup and more time to work on safely.
- Roof openings and flashing
- Each chimney, skylight and cluster of vents adds flashing work that has to be done by hand.
Common storm damage questions
Something not covered here? (859) 279-2442
Can I climb up and look for damage on my own?
We ask that you don't. Loose granules and shifted shingles make a storm-hit roof much slicker than it appears, and weakened decking can give way. Use binoculars from the ground, look over the gutters and downspouts, and let us do the climbing during a free roof inspection.
Will my policy pay for the repair?
That comes down to your policy and what the adjuster finds, not to us. We photograph the damage, explain it plainly and give you a line-item estimate. Many homeowners call us first to learn whether the damage is worth a claim.
Can you repair only the damaged shingles?
In many cases, yes. When damage is limited and the shingles around it still seal, a targeted repair is the honest call. If hail bruised most of the roof or the shingles are close to worn out, we'll say a repair would only last a short while and show you why.
How long will a storm repair take?
Repairs on one or two slopes are usually done in a day. Replacing decking or a large patch of shingles takes longer, and we plan around rain so the roof is never left open.
Do you offer a first-visit discount?
We do. Right now we have Limited Time — $50 Off Your First Service Call. Bring it up when you call to book your free estimate.
